My God, My God
Psalm 22 (a Psalm of lament)
1. My God, my God! Why have you for-sak-en me?
Why are you so far a-way? And far from my groan-ing?
2. O God, my God, I have cried both night and day.
All that see me laugh and scorn. But, you have not an-swered.
3. You are ho-ly, Our fa-thers trust-ed in you.
They cried to you and were saved, And they were de-liv-ered.
4. You have made me, Be not far a-way from me.
O my Strength, quick-ly help me, There's none else to help me!
5. I'll praise you Lord, I'll de-clare Your name to all.
You've n'er hid from those suf-f'ring, You will de-liver me!

NOTES: This song is a rare LAMENT Psalm. Psalm 22 is quoted
by Jesus while on the cross in Matt. 27:46. It is also a
Messianic Psalm.
Written in F-minor, it is one of my best works of paraphrasing
scripture and setting it to music to match. It has a different
ending for the "you will deliver me!" and ends in D-major.
Sing "with emotion" and intensity and not too fast.
Credit also goes to a lesson by John Mark Hicks about spiritual
growth through lament. It is ok to cry out "WHY GOD?",
"ARE YOU LISTENING?" as you are not blaming him, but as Job
and even the martyrs under the alter of God in Revelation
who cried "How long?" it is a pouring out of our hearts and
concerns and minds in communication to God... qualities of
a true relationship!
A song for the storms of life.
